Obsession with apples

On my journeys around the area, I keep coming across small, home-made looking signs by the side of the road exhorting the viewer to "cueillez vos pommes".
Is there a French organisation dedicated to increasing the number of apples that are picked?
Is it the work of one person?
What if you don't have any apple trees?

As far as I can make out this is all the work of one orchard down in the Haute Vienne - my detective side spotted the 05 55 number -appealing for workers to come and pick their apples.

The same sign appears year after year in the same places.  Must be a jolly big orchard.

Quite what one gets in return isn't mentioned.  If anything other than a vat of cider.

Thanks. However, I can't see any phone number on the one as you enter Montmorillon on the Moulismes road.
