Greetings

Tried to buy some lamb mince the other day in Le Clerc. It doesn't seem to exist and the chap on the butchery counter looked at me as though I had asked him to mince his own right leg - mind you with my French prnounciation!

So a plea - does it exist locally, fresh or frozen? Beef moussaka doesn't sound the same.

Thanks

Top marks in the bravery stakes for asking.  Lamb is regarded as quite a high-end meat in France and would therefore never suffer the indignity of being minced.

I asked the butcher in Montmorillon for minced lamb a couple of years back and was shown the door.  After he and his mates had had a good laugh about the mad Anglais.

Having said that, this is the same bloke I ordered a ham from once upon a time.  A couple of weeks later he presented me with a round cut through the leg, no bone, no fat and no skin. Doh   He wasn't amused by my response.

I fear if you want minced lamb you'll have to do it yourself......but you'll need a good food processor and plenty of patience to clean all the fat out of it later.

Bonne chance. wave

PS: if you ever see minced beef listed as Boeuf Bolognaise in the supermarket, don't buy it.  Make your own.  It is plain, uninspiring and unacceptable. Thumbsdown

There's a Grand Frais at the Family Village in Limoges.

I'm thinking of asking him if I can have some minced fillet steak this week! Big Grin
