I found this odd wooden thing yesterday tucked in the back of an old cupboard. It looks very old and well used it's made of hardwood and has a hole in the bottom about the diameter of your small finger, the handle on the top has what looks like a broken spring attached to a piece of dowel which goes up and down.

Someone said it could be a bottle corker, what do you think it is ?

It is obviously a Victorian sink-plunger thingy.

Because of it's age the rubber "plunger" bit has perished thereby leading to your confusion.

Or it's a bottle corker. Doh

I'm not old enough to remember the Victorian era, did YOU have sinks in those days. Big Grin

It certainly looks like a bottle corker to me. We have a more modern one but it is definitely very similar.

Thank you JackieMac, so it looks like it will end up as a trinket once I get it polished, as I don't want to put corks in. (Only remove them.) Big Grin
