The other night, as I was watching the night sky I was transfixed by the lightning accompanying a distant storm, somewhere over Poitiers and Chauvigny, clearly visible from our garden about 12 km south of Montmorillon.

There's an excellent website called Lightning Maps which gives you a live map of thunderstorms around the world. The France/Germany area is particularly accurate and shows each strike with a delay of just a second or so. It even shows how far the thunder front has travelled.

I find it very useful when planning gardening/washing/going for a walk etc. Or just to amuse myself.

IF you visit from a mobile phone, it should default to the mobile version automatically.

Have fun!

If anyone happens by this message on the afternoon of Saturdsy 28th May, have a look at that lightning web site. There's pretty much a continuous series of storm cells between here and the coast. It looks as if Montmorillon itself will escape though.
