Interesting...

Only a beta site at the moment but it looks like Google intend on launching a new comparison site specifically for auto insurance in the French market eek

Goodness, what next - maybe France is about to join the internet's 20th (yes I did say 20th) century.

LINK...

Only for cars at the moment, but it does provide pricing from up to seven assurers.

Haven't tried it out, can't as I don't have a vehicle in France any more - but might be something worth watching. Do however note that I expect you'll need to give away contact details which is likely to result in marketing calls from the various assurers listed.

Funny that Fred. I had the same problem. What's the matter with a 1999 Land Rover? Don't tell me the obvious. Age etc etc.

Seriously though, almost quivering with excitement that commercial markets in France might be getting competitive eek Time for a rub down with a damp towel and a lie-down.

No one wants the Old Fogies these days mate (no I'm talking vehicles, not you & me) mines a 1993 but still going strong, and I have about 30 odd years of no claim. So if they don't want my business then it's their loss in my opinion.

Hopefully as it's only in beta at the moment their range of coverage availability would increase as the services launches fully.

But it does appear to be a step in the right direction.

Hi all
Just thought I'd post my(our) experience with obtaining car insurance.
Rosie has an Australian licence - I have Uk & Aus
As we had been living in Vietnam for 2 years, where we had a motorbike or used drivers we had no car insurance history for that period.
No French insurers would give us any "no claims" type discounts, despite both having been driving for over 30 years. Most of the local quotes were around €1200 a year for fully comp.
Using an on line comparison site https://www.lelynx.fr came up with

https://www.lolivier.fr @ €380

https://direct-assurance.fr/ @€600
Per year both for fully comp etc
Sites are all in french (but with Google translate assisting) are navigable with patience.
Unfortunately the cheaper one would not insure Rosie because of current lack of Eu licence so we went for the direct assurance one.
Relatively easy procedure - all docs uploaded and electronic signing, (has an iPhone app as well)
Ended up witha couple of phone calls as (of course) I misunderstood the procedure.
They don't have an English speaking help desk but a lovely Frenchlad gave it a good go and was patient with my (bad) Franglaise but agreed to email me all correspondence as I find it easier to follow than phone calls.
Short of it car now has it's nice little green sticker. No idea if the insurance is better or worse than any other if it comes to a claim but a few blogs seem to suggest they are ok.
Any way just thought I'd share.
Cheers Huw

I must say I've been pleasantly surprised with car insurance in France so far. I tried carious sites on the web nut they didn't recognise our car (1977 Renault 4L - I mean, how French can you get?) so we went to see the agent who had arranged our house insurance.

I have 9 years no claims on my UK insurance which she said her company would match as long as I dropped a copy of my last UK renewal into them.

The price she offered was €220 fully comprehensive, any driver, with breakdown insurance, 10000Km per year.

IF anyone would like details please drop me a pm and I'll be happy to pass them on.

Started off using AXA in France and found them v expensive.

Went to Credit Agricole  and got the old bus ( a Land Rover) fully comp for €390 a year.  Bargain in my old eyes.

Admiitedly myself and Madame have about 5,000 years of no claims under out belts.

Ooops.  That's torn it..... Sad
