I wish more people would take a leaf out of your book and "report back" on stuff that was discussed/mentioned earlier on the forum.

It is more than just a day out and needs planning well in advance probably with an overnight stay in the park. It's a good two and a half hour drive from Montmorilllon. We know people - both French and English - who make a three day outing there every summer and come back raving about it.
Nearer to home, what about trying the Planete des Crocodiles at Civaux? There is more info about the place in this listing on page two under "Must see around Montmorillon."
