I don't have a motorhome myself but as far as I know, you can park a motorhome overnight for free in a lot of towns in France you need to look for "Aires" A freind of mine goes all along the coast in the summer and says he never pays. 
You often see them parked up so just follow everyone else, or ask at the towns local Mayor office. In Montmorillon you will have to pay at the official camping site, but you can park up over night near to L'eclerc for free. I don't know of any others in Montmorillon but if you head south to Lathus saint remy and turn right at the church you will find a nice new free one on the right hand side.
