The refurbished Cinema Majestic in Boulevard Strasbourg is excellent.
I visited yesterday - my first time since it's been extensively overhauled. The old version had a certain charm redolent of the flespits I used to frequent in the Workington of my youth in the early 1970s...
The new version is tres chic. A comfortable foyer (with ice creams, coffee, tea and snacks available) is staffed by very friendly volunteers. The auditorium now boasts very comfortable seats, plenty of space, excellent heating and great picture quality. Previous visits had often been tainted by a whiff of 'things unpleasant' but all is now very fresh.
I went to see the live relay of Siegfried from the Royal Opera House in London and the sound quality was absolutely superb - it seemed as if the orchestra was actually playing from just in front of the screen.
I highly recommend a visit - support your local cinema!
