If like me you have found buying tyres in France a very expensive experience, read on and find out how I saved over €60.00 per tyre!

I needed some new tyres for my 4×4 and past experience has taught me buying in France is very expensive. Two years ago I paid €166 + fitting for each 265/70 R15, a friend told me “you should get them from the UK as they are cheaper” He was right they are cheaper £97 each which would be around €120 + shipping & fitting.

But I still wanted to buy in France If I could match the price, and a bit more research took me to Centrale Pneus on-line website, they had the exact tyres I was looking for, the website was easy to use, and I got my tyres at €107 each delivered to my door in three days. Oh and the exact make I wanted which was a first for me in France. Dodgy

They have given me excellent service and saved me a lot of money, if you look on their website you will find “Trouver un garage” click that and you will find 3500 garages in France that will accept delivery of your tyres and fit them for you.

I got mine sent to me and tried to find someone local to fit them, but the problem I had was the size of the wheels. So I ended up going to the garage near Leclerc who fitted them for €28 each which was the best price I could find for the size. If anyone knows of someone who fits tyres please share on this thread.

But in the end I saved, got what I wanted, and was given excellent service. You can find the website here: https://www.centralepneus.fr

*If you’re not sure how to find your tyre size: Mine are 265/70 R15 112 T so i would enter Largeur: 265 Hauteur: 70 Diamètre: 15. You will find your size on the side of your existing tyre or in your handbook. Or you could use the “Recherche par véhicule” button on their website to find the correct tyre for your vehicle. Failing that if you get stuck, talk to them, they are very helpful.

Fred,

I understand your frustration with Norauto but they are an off-shoot of the Auchan chain and therefore in the game for the maximum.

On a more positive note the one place in Monty that will fit tyres you've ordered yourself - and at a very reasonable rate - is Chouteau Pneus.

And before you ask.....go past Mr Bricolage, over the roundabout past Leader Price, past the college and as you get to the brow of the hill there voila! on your righthand side is Chouteau Pnues.

Really friendly and really great service. Got a puncture in Monty recently - nothing too dramatic. Took the old banger into them to ask for a rendevous and was told to wait fifteen minutes and they'd fix it. Which they did.

Almost instant service in France so unnerved me I had to go for a lie-down in a darkened room.

Yrs dazed and confused,

Admiral

Norauto that's it, I couldn't remember the name. No I'm not frustrated they gave me the best price, though I must admit I didn't try Chouteau Pneus as unlike you I have had two bad experiences with them.

#1 They tried telling me I needed a new wheel on an espace when it didn't.

#2 They told me I must have 4 matching tyres on my 4x4 at a ridiculous price when in fact you only need to have the front or back matching.

But then that's what we will find, and that is where a forum like this is good, different opinions from different experiences.

Maybe I should put my teeth in next time and smile. Big Grin

Sorry about your experience(s) with Chouteau. I must say my one and only was exceptional - especially for France.

Having said that, I have heard from other people horror stories of Chouteau trying to sell them four brand new Pirelli or Michelin tyres at astronomical cost when they didn't need them.

But there again, businesses all over the world try it on. They wouldn't be a business if they didn't.

Maybe I got away unharmed with my boyish charm and a sweet disarming smile.

Actually Madame Admiral says I got away with it being more than six feet tall, built like a brick outhouse and looking as if I could eat a small French car mechanic for lunch. Only with frites and Fond de Veau tho. I am picky about grub.

Pip pip,

Admiral

This thread has to be worth a bump.

I ordered two tyres from Centralepneus on Friday afternoon and I have just had a phone call today (Monday) to say they have arrived at the garage I had them sent to for fitting. And better still the tyres were cheaper than when I last purchased from them.

I won't post the name of the garage I've had them sent to yet as I'm having them fitted Friday and I've not used him before, so I'll post more then.

But if you're ever looking for tyres I can highly recommend https://www.centralepneus.fr/

Thanks for the tips, Fred and Admiral.
A while ago Norauto supplied and fitted 2 Michelin tyres for me. The price was at least 20% cheaper than the uk.
However, I recently had a puncture and needed to fit the spare wheel. On retrieving my locking wheel nut 'key' I discovered that the key part had been so damaged it would no longer fit the wheel nut. Further examination showed that the wheel of one of the most recently fitted tyres was held on with 5 plain nuts rather than 4 plain and one locking. I did visit to remonstrate but got nothing more than a shrug and "it couldn't have been us - it was 8 months ago". (???)

In which case we all need to watch out for a mysterious gang who are creeping around stealing locking wheel nuts and replacing them with plain ones.

Norauto used to be good but I no longer use them since they ruined my aircon, hence me going elsewhere to have my tyres fitted.

As promised an update on getting my tyres fitted.

Like I said I ordered last Friday afternoon and the man from the garage phoned Monday to say they had arrived. I asked if he could fit this Friday and he said yeas at 2pm, I arrived just before 2pm thinking I will probably wait half an hour but I was wrong the garage door opened before I had turned the engine off.

He took the car straight in and within 40 minute we are on our way with the new tyres fitted. So I will definitely be getting my tyres sent to him in the future.

He is a very nice man and I can highly recommend him.
