Went down to Bellac yesterday and whilst prodding around in Carrefour I spotted some Crumpets at the bread section. Having not had crumpets for about 8 years I thought what a find, it was buy one and get one free. There were two packets left, so in the trolley they went.

Had them for breakfast this morning and thought "what was all the fuss about". Don't get me wrong they tasted good, but they just didn't give me the kick I was expecting. I suppose it's a matter of not having them for so long your tastes change and things maybe weren't as good as you thought they were in the first place.

Having said that the Maynards Wine Gums were nice. Rolleyes

Lucky bugger - I love crumpets, haven't had any for a while now. For some reason they don't seem to know what they are out here.

Hoping that as I'm relocating to a new country in three days that there may be some there... one thing I am looking forward to is being able to buy a pint Big Grin

Doubt you'll find crumpet in Dubai. But...you can get proper English bitter beer and a full Sunday roast at Biggles bar - if it's still there.

Bonne chance....Big Grin

Yep, Biggles is still here - at the Millennium Airport Hotel - but that's the other end of Sheik Zayed Road from where we're temporarily living.

However there's bucket loads of bars out here nowadays - real party town - still ranging from sleazy all the way up to "How Much !!! " for a beer.

I'll have to mooch around Waitrose in the Dubai Mall and see if they have them - although one thing they do have is a PORK section, which after 10 months is a country where it's haram is going to be nice.
