Just been reading some bad news. The world is heading for a global wine shortage [Image: Scare.gif]

Quote:
Research by America's Morgan Stanley financial services firm says demand for wine "exceeded supply by 300m cases in 2012".

It describes this as "the deepest shortfall in over 40 years of records".

Last year, production also dropped to its lowest levels in more than four decades.

Global production has been steadily declining since its peak in 2004, when supply outweighed demand by about 600m cases.

Demand for wine is 3bn cases per year, but production is down to 2.8bn cases each year.

Total production across the continent fell by about 10% last year, and by 25% since its peak in 2004.

Did you know the French and Americans are the biggest consumers of wine at 12% each. Hic!

eek Scary headline. And v. bad news for lovers of the grape like Madame Admiral and her chums. I off course, never touch the stuff.Whistle

Two things to address here; why is supply dropping whilst demand grows and does this means I'll have to order Madames boxes of vin plonk in advance to avoid disappointment?

Surprised by the Yanks inclusion on that list. Always thought they had a very Puritan outlook to the dreaded alcool.

The ones making the wine have found out it tastes nice, got into a drunken stupor and forgot you need to make more for next year. Doh

No it's just a ploy to get you to buy all those 10lt box's that didn't shift through the summer.
