I understand that after BREXIT , there is a possibility that our Uk driving licence may not be valid in France.
I am considering (like countless others ) , changing my licence. Apart from anything else , since I am over 70 years old , it would be more convenient - no necessity to renew every 3 years.
However I have an important question.

If I did so , would i be able to drive in UK after BREXIT on my French licence ?????

I await the thoughts of all you knowledgeable people.

Hello Mr Interstate.
I think the only accurate answer is"no-one knows" as the terms of Brexit have not yet been devised, let alone agreed.

If you do go for the French licence, you would then be able to get an international driving permit that is valid in over 140 countries around the world.

There is, of course,a possibility that Britain will not extend recognition of the permit to its European (former) partners but that really would be cutting off the nose, ears, eyes and chin to spite its face.

Hiya M. 750

Agree with Brian.  Everything I have read on Brexit so far - and it's a lot - make it quite clear that the rights of expats in Europe haven't really been discussed at all.

For instance no-one knows for sure if the European healthcard will still be valid, if everyone will need a Carte Sejour to stay here, what expat tax status will be, UK pension rights payable in France, the rumoured refusal to let any of us here have a British bank account etc etc.  The list of unknowns is endless and very boring.

As for getting a French driving licence, why not do what others have done and get a French licence whilst retaiing your UK licence.... Whistle You just tell the French plods you've lost your UK one.......

Not that I would advocate any dodgy dealings.  Much. Big Grin

At the end of the day, I agree with Brian in that mainland Europe really wouldn't cut of it's nose and lose all those tourists who drive over for their hols.  Therefore, it follows that European visitors to Britain must be allowed to drive on the licence of the country they live in.  Err......we're dealing with incompetent half-wit politicians here.  Especially the shifty midget Macron who makes all the right noises to Britain then turns into Brutus at the slaying of the Maybot.
