UK MOTORISTS EXEMPT FROM SPEED TICKETS IN THE EU | With Brexit, the European directive on traffic offenses no longer applies; therefore motorists who own cars registered in Great Britain flashed on French roads will no longer receive the  ticket notices. Only those intercepted by the security forces will have to pay the fien on the spot . A "shortfall" of around 60 million euros per year for the French state Big Grin . In 2020, the British committed 444,000 traffic violations in France ...

In short that means if you are speeding and grilled by a radar along side the road with UK registration plates NO WORRY

Just saying.. Big Grin

However, one thing it will mean is far more targeting of UK registered vehicles by the traffic police (good) and the subsequent immediate marching of said delinquent to the nearest ATM (also good).

I imagine that if car travel between the UK and France becomes easier in the Summer, the autoroutes outside the popular ports will be well supplied with police patrols and mobile radar installations! Macron needs to boost revenue as quickly as possible!

I'm with Steve I can see a lot more UK registered vehicles getting pulled. Yes they may get away with speeding if caught by a fixed radar, but that won't stop the gendarme issuing a fixed penalty and giving the offender a hard time.

We may not like the rules on speeding and I have been victim of it, but I've lived here 17 years now and I class myself as a guest in their country as a guest I have to obey the rules. How would a Brit feel if I took my French registered car to the UK and passed everyone at 90 MPH ?

But any Brits thinking of breaking the rules in their British registered car, if you come past me at breakneck speed I will be on the phone to report you. Big Grin

At least it got you talking on the forum  Thumb

No point me reporting them Admiral as by the time I explained with my Franglais they would be long gone.  Big Grin

I do however hope that they get caught as I have to crawl along at 80kph on the 147 so why shouldn't they.
